RALEIGH - Representative Bill Daughtridge formally filed as a candidate for North Carolina State Treasurer today. And, in a move that signals continued momentum for his campaign, all three Republican members of the Council of State joined the Daughtridge campaign team by endorsing his candidacy.
Each issued the following statements:
Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry - "Bill Daughtridge is a proven business leader who has distinguished himself in the legislature. Bill brings a comprehensive knowledge of business issues and understands the importance of making sound investments for the future of North Carolina. He is truly an asset to our state and I look forward to working with him on the Council of State. The people of North Carolina will be well served with Bill Daughtridge as our next State Treasurer."
Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler - "If we are going to sustain long-term economic growth in North Carolina, then we must elect more business leaders to the Council of State. Bill Daughtridge understands business. He understands our agribusiness economy and he knows our farmers. I support Bill and encourage each of our farmers to do so."
State Auditor Leslie Merritt - "It is important that we have a State Treasurer who has the business experience needed to manage the state's funds. Bill Daughtridge is well qualified and prepared to meet this challenge. I support Bill and encourage all of our citizens to do so as well.
"I am honored to have the support of our Party leaders. It is imperative that we focus our attention on winning in November. There is growing concern over the state of our economy and we must have a State Treasurer who can maintain confidence and trust in our pension funds. My career is founded in business, not government. With the addition of these leaders to my team, I am one step closer to building the campaign needed to win for the people of North Carolina." stated Representative Daughtridge.
