Representative Daughtridge Calls for Republican Unity Supporting Governor Easley's Veto
Rocky Mount, NC - Representative Bill Daughtridge, Republican Candidate for Treasurer, said "Governor Easley has offered an alternative job retention plan to the Goodyear incentive plan. This alternative plan moves the state in the right direction. Incentives should be open to more counties and more industries in order to spread job growth and retention across North Carolina."
Rep. Daughtridge was a Co-Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Economic Growth and Development. "Our committee re-wrote the two major job incentive programs for North Carolina, the Bill Lee Act and the Job Development Investment Act. The overriding focus of the improvements was to make incentives available to a large range of industries as opposed to a select few. The Governor's proposal continues to move us to that end."
"The optimum plan would be to eliminate corporate taxes on all business, small and large. But until that happens, expanding the eligibility makes sense. I urge my fellow Republican legislators who originally supported the Goodyear incentive bill to now support the Governor's alternative plan."
